
About Alabama Family
Ties
Alabama Family Ties, Inc. is a
non-profit organization for families of children and
adolescents with a serious emotional disturbance (SED). The
Mental Illness Planning Council of the Department of Mental
Health and Mental Retardation created this organization in
1998 through a federal grant from SAMHSA.
A board of directors comprised of 90 %
family members of youth with SED aged up to 25 years governs
Alabama Family Ties, Inc. One full time employee staffs the
organization.
Alabama Family Ties, Inc. does not
provide direct services to youth with SED. The organization
does provide the following services to families of SED youth
and the professionals who serve them.

families to contact us with problems they are
encountering
- resource database
- newsletter
- annual conference
- technical assistance with starting
and maintaining support groups across the state
- trainings for families as well as
professionals on family resiliency, SED diagnosis
